In the State of California you have the right to select a collision repair shop of your choice. The law also states that only one estimate is required to determine the cost of repairs to your vehicle. You are entitled to an itemized final bill of all repairs done and parts replaced. You also may require that all replaced parts be returned to you when you sign the work order.
It is against the law for your insurance company to suggest, recommended or otherwise force you to a repair shop of their choice. They may only recommend auto body collision repair shop(s) if you specifically ask for a recommendation from them and they must notify you in writing about your right to choose your own auto body collision repair shop.
